Did you know?

The Platypus is stranger than you think.

Platypuses have no nipples.  After the young hatch, the mother oozes milk from the pores all over her body.

The male platypus has a poison barb on the inside of its hind legs.  The purpose of this weapon is uncertain.

While often compared to the beaver, the platypus is only about 20 inches in length -- more comparable to the size of the muskrat.

The Platypus bill is actually just an elongated muzzle covered with much the same kind of tough skin found on a dog's nose.  This bill contains an electrically-sensitive organ that can detect the electrical signatures of the small aquatic animals it eats.

Thank you very much, Dingy-dog. If you wouldn't mind going to the website of the store where you acquired it and posting a brief review, it would be awfully nice. :) And if you blog or tweet, a mention there would be appreciated too.

I am aware that Burnout is currently showing up as "out of stock" at the major
online print bookstores. Please be patient; it is not out of print. There has been
a database error (I'm not sure where, but suspect with the distributors) that
is causing it to show up this way. We are actively troubleshooting the
problem. Meanwhile, copies may still be purchased directly from the publisher,
at Twilight Times Books. To my knowledge, e-book availability has not been affected.

The link in my sig file will take you to Twilight Times' listing of Burnout.

I saw the thread on space.com and joined back up for the fun of it. Then somebody posted a reply to your thread, Dingo, and I suddenly remembered why I left that place.

It's ok PLC, the Bozometer there is hovering around 3.  Calli and the rest of the staff have been doing a good job of keeping it down.  Don't post much overthere, but I do correct peoples understanding of water on the geology of Mars as up to date science discover and comfirm things

Well, the final straw came when I got a message from an admin saying that not only do they not allow advertising in sig files at SDC, but mine was "particularly offensive" and would I please remove it. I did, and removed my presence as well. I will not be going back.

Your signature is particularly offensive?

Yup. My sig file - which was essentially identical to the one here, minus the bozo comment, was deemed "particularly offensive" as a result of the very large bright banner contained in it. Or words to that effect. "Particularly offensive" is a direct quote however.

Now, this banner was created by my publisher with the intent to be tasteful, not take up too much room, but to draw note to the book. It is hardly large, nor is "brick" a color known to be bright.

I'd also had one or two posts deleted over there. Not edited, deleted. In forums that used to be my specialty, but which are now moderated by strangers to me.

What I find particularly disappointing, however, was that it was our favorite time lord who informed me that my sig file was offensive. THAT hurt. I could have dealt with the rest.

I had a mod delete a post at SDC, then send me a PM in his regular user name stating that he didn't see why my post was deleted. He didn't know that I knew he was a mod. That was just too ridiculous, so I left and haven't been back since.     I just got back in town and headed to Barnes and Nobel. If it's not there I'll fill out a request. Can't wait to read it!

Kurgan, It is worth the read!, I would loan you my copy but I fear it would not get returned.  As soon as I can, and my local store gets it back in stock, I am going to get another copy and ship it to PLC to get a Classic "Ad astra sin Bozotii"  PLC I will be sending it return postage included, but it might be a few weeks

Bless you both. I appreciate the encouragement, and also the interest in the book!

Dingo, I also appreciate the postage paid. Many just ship me the book (or request I send one) and don't bother to pay for the shipping.

Yea, that wouldn't be a good idea Dingo as I do most my reading in the bathroom now-a-days.   Barnes and Noble can't order it for some reason. The girl that I asked has worked there for years, so I'm sure she knew what she was talking about.  I would rather not have it shipped because I'm never home, and when I am, I use the back door. Think I can find it at another seller?
