Title: 'A Ticket To Space' Symposium Post by: Remcook on October 04, 2001, 11:49:00 AM I want to start by saying I haven't been able to post often lately, because my computer exploded and that took a while to repair. I'm now trying to post more frequently (which I cannot promise: I'm a quiet kind of guy).
Anyway, the thing is: this year I am (together with 4 others) organizing (amongst other things such as excursions and guest lectures) a symposium on space tourism. For this, we need some speakers. We were thinking along the line of Dennis Tito, X-prize, Mircorps. Does anybody have more nice ideas or knows a way to contact some great persons, I would appreciate it very much. It's in the Netherlands and so persons in the neighbourhood would be nice (they are cheaper). Thanks. Title: Some help Post by: heldmyw on October 04, 2001, 12:25:00 PM I have no contacts for presenters, but might be of some use if real-time 2-way teleconferencing is of interest.
Here in the U.S., compressed video technology is used heavily by educational facilities to enable students to explore cultural institutions and speak directly with experts and docents. Now that commercial interests are reducing much of their air travel, this technology is becoming more and more available and common. Would your symposium be served by 2-way video-audio connections to appropriate speakers? It's not difficult, nor particularly expensive. I may be able to offer some assistance. (No Spam, No Spam! I'm not selling anything!) Title: tele-conferencing Post by: Remcook on October 04, 2001, 12:39:00 PM This is good idea, but I think this would be a last resort, because nothing beats the real thing.
Title: Truth! Post by: heldmyw on October 04, 2001, 02:35:00 PM You are right.
If it is appropriate, please keep us informed of your progress. Wishing you Success! h Title: Re: Truth! Post by: Sarah90 on October 12, 2001, 03:58:00 AM Rem: assume that 'the real thing' is meeting ...in the 'physical'...However...if we can't do that - and being across the other side of our world...teleconferencing' does seem like a really interesting...alternative? (Meanwhile, there's no way I could work that one out...still blushing with embarrassment about how to deal with my...computer-illiteracy!)
Title: Update Post by: Remcook on October 25, 2001, 07:07:00 AM We have 1 speaker now.
It's mr Inden from astrium. Very busy trying to get more.. Title: Re: Update Post by: dingo15068 on October 25, 2001, 07:22:00 AM Remcock,
Contact the European Space Agency. I think that they might be willing to provide a speaker or two, if you approch thiem about it Title: Re: Update Post by: Remcook on October 25, 2001, 07:31:00 AM busy with that. Thanks for the suggestion.
Title: Re: Need some ideas Post by: Remcook on November 26, 2001, 04:11:00 PM Update time: A lot of letters have left, but only few have returned. :( (http://www.ezboard.com/intl/urlenglish/images/emoticons/frown.gif ):(
We have however another potential speaker: mr Collins from Azabu (or something, I'll have to look that up) University in Japan. Maybe Archie knows more. Some collegues saw him speak on the IAF and were enthusiastic. He is willing to speak, but likes to have part of the trip payed. We'll have to wait and see if we can get enough sponsorship. Title: Remcook Post by: blacknebula101 on November 26, 2001, 06:04:00 PM I know someone that can get you Dennis Tito's home address along with Buzz Aldrin's. Email me and I will tell you more. I can't guarentee anything but snail mail addresses.

I tried everything-space.com, but alas. Would be very nice. We tried to contact them by E-mail, but untill now without success.
Title: update Post by: Remcook on December 20, 2001, 03:53:00 PM If all goes well, we have speakers from both SpaceAdventures and MirCorp. SA says they are the only company doing space tourism. Should be interesting...
Title: Re: update Post by: Remcook on January 17, 2002, 08:28:00 AM We, together with several other institutes, are trying to get Goldin to speak at our symposium. He's asking a lot of money, but a lot of effort is being done.
Also, former astronaut Wubbo Ockels is willing to speak at our symposium and maybe future astronaut Andre Kuipers. Furthermore, next week we have sponsorship-negotiations with the national lottery. Title: Re: Need some ideas Post by: Remcook on February 22, 2002, 06:33:00 AM so pete, do you think you can make it? Or miss another chance...
Title: Re: Need some ideas Post by: Peter on February 22, 2002, 08:42:00 AM send me all the info! (Peter@everything-space.com), or just paste it all in this thread!
I know of some friends of mine who will be very interested too! Peter Title: Re: Need some ideas Post by: broomstar on February 22, 2002, 08:50:00 AM That's great, Remcook!
Will you report your symposium to us, please? BTW, if you don't get enough questions for those celebrities, you may collect some here? Title: Congratulations! Post by: heldmyw on February 22, 2002, 10:38:00 AM Look at the start date on this thread!
Must be a persistence award in this. Good for you! Title: Some info Post by: Remcook on February 24, 2002, 04:10:00 PM The symposium will be held at 9 april.
In the morning, there will be 4 speakers: - Dan Goldin, need I say more?! - Eric Anderson, CEO of Space Adventures, the guy who basicly managed the Tito trip. - Wubbo Ockels, former Dutch astronaut and professor at Delft University of Technology - Patrick Collins, professor at Azabu University, Japan After lunch, there will be some sort of game show for the students present. Winner will get a zero-g flight. (not in a big plane, but still...) In the afternoon, there will be a forum to dicuss some things. If all goes well, there will be a website soon, where everybody can subsribe. Title: Re: Some info Post by: Remcook on February 26, 2002, 08:49:00 AM now just hope we get enough money together. We have some sponsorship, but not yet enough. (especially the lunch is very expensive)
Title: Re: Some info Post by: Remcook on March 05, 2002, 04:04:00 PM Due to budget problems, we had to cut it to one afternoon, leaving out the forum. But money is fine now. Goldin is still coming. We had to cancel Collins. Still a little show with which you can win a 0-g flight.
I'm now busy with the poster and folders. Should be done beginning next week. Tired. Bed. Later.. Title: Re: Some info Post by: Orstio on March 05, 2002, 04:07:00 PM Are you planning this as an annual event, or is this a one-time deal?
Title: Re: Some info Post by: Remcook on March 06, 2002, 03:15:00 AM It's something we do to celebrate our 15th year of excistance. Normally, the society is doing lectures, excursions and small (foreign) study tours.
The society is a sub-society of the aerospace-students society. It deals only with space related subjects. Others groups are doing a sympoium too, a large study tour, parties, etc. Title: Re: Some info Post by: Remcook on March 19, 2002, 10:58:00 AM You can all register on:
www.delftaerospace.com/vsv/rvd I'd be disappointed if you didn't all came. ;) (http://www.ezboard.com/intl/urlenglish/images/emoticons/wink.gif );) |
