Very sad news. This great astronomer will be remembered for his many important contributions in a wide variety of fields of astronomy, including pioneering neutrino astronomy, studies on quasars ...  (he has published ~500 papers during his scientific career); his efforts in helping "ensure the construction and survival of the Hubble Space Telescope" and nurturing young astronomers, especially by leading the astrophysics group in Institute for Advanced Study for more than 30 years.
