Title: Finches Post by: Astronuc on April 29, 2006, 04:44:24 PM Well, it's Spring once again, and we have a plethora of birds in the back yard. During the winter, we had chickadees, titmice, a variety of woodpeckers, and odd jay, and sparrows. They are all still present in our yard.
But now spring is here we have finches. The most common are the gold finches and purple finches, and the largest members of the family cardinals. We usually see mating pairs of finches. Here are a couple of goldfinches feeding on the thistle seed we put out. I believe the bottom one is the female of the pair. The females are less brightly coloured and do not have the sulfur yellow colour. |
