For those of you who don't visit SDC.
2002ap in M74
Currently at about mag 13.7 and brightening, this object is being labelled as a hypernova. This object may become as bright as mag 11, which would make it the brightest SN in a long time.

M74 is Mag 9.4. I cannot see it in my light polluted sky. A 13 or 11 object is hopeless. :\

I'm going to be observing in the Sierra "foothills" (5000 feet up, so maybe we should call them kneehills..) Saturday andf will check it out if the weather stays good.
