It may in fact not be an Architeuthis but a new species of cephalopod (squid).

I heard it on the news now.
They said that a giant squid was only seen 50 times before.

that some are washing up in San Diego, California, too, but I haven't seen any footage. As rare as these things seem to be, you'd think the marine biologists (and the press) would be all over this story. (Maybe the biologists just don't get good press.) I'd be interested to learn more...
