It's just you, Rem!
Actually I haven't noticed any more space coverage in the US..... and I'm a little dismayed at how quickly the whole Columbia thing has gone from page 1 to page 3 or 5........
Science in general just does not seem to have the prestige and popularity it had when I grew up.

...and now certainly there is a lot more press coverage. Space is 'hot'!

yea i have noticed, in England there seems to be space obsession, in my school loads of people are talking about it. I think the speech by bush has inspired a few people and my a-level class looks set to study an astrophysics unit rather than electronics, which im not sure would have happened if it wasn’t for the increase in press coverage.

I have to note: electronics is as much a part of spaceflight as is astrophysics. There is a high demand for electrical engineers everywhere and a good one is hard to come by. Every satellites is driven by electronics and al lot of the detector technology for the instruments is also made by electrical engineers. A lot of electrical engineering departments are involved in spaceflight somehow.
but I get your drift

In my corner of the world (Alaska) spaceflight, while not always exactly a front and center news item, is often at least somewhat present. A few years ago, this were because of a scheme to use Kodiak Island as a rocket launching base; these days (in my immediate area) it focus's on the `Challenger Learning Center' for kids with a interest in spaceflight matters.
