I want to start by saying I haven't been able to post often lately, because my computer exploded and that took a while to repair. I'm now trying to post more frequently (which I cannot promise: I'm a quiet kind of guy).

Anyway, the thing is: this year I am (together with 4 others) organizing (amongst other things such as excursions and guest lectures) a symposium on space tourism. For this, we need some speakers. We were thinking along the line of Dennis Tito, X-prize, Mircorps. Does anybody have more nice ideas or knows a way to contact some great persons, I would appreciate it very much. It's in the Netherlands and so persons in the neighbourhood would be nice (they are cheaper).

Thanks.

I have no contacts for presenters, but might be of some use if real-time 2-way teleconferencing is of interest.

Here in the U.S., compressed video technology is used heavily by educational facilities to enable students to explore cultural institutions and speak directly with experts and docents.  Now that commercial interests are reducing much of their air travel, this technology is becoming more and more available and common.

Would your symposium be served by 2-way video-audio connections to appropriate speakers?  It's not difficult, nor particularly expensive.  I may be able to offer some assistance.

(No Spam, No Spam!  I'm not selling anything!)

This is good idea, but I think this would be a last resort, because nothing beats the real thing.

Rem:  assume that 'the real thing' is meeting ...in the 'physical'...However...if we can't do that - and being across the other side of our world...teleconferencing' does seem like a really interesting...alternative?   (Meanwhile, there's no way I could work that one out...still blushing with embarrassment about how to deal with my...computer-illiteracy!)

Remcock,
Contact the European Space Agency.  I think that they might be willing to provide a speaker or two, if you approch thiem about it

Update time: A lot of letters have left, but only few have returned. :(
We have however another potential speaker: mr Collins from Azabu (or something, I'll have to look that up) University in Japan. Maybe Archie knows more. Some collegues saw him speak on the IAF and were enthusiastic. He is willing to speak, but likes to have part of the trip payed. We'll have to wait and see if we can get enough sponsorship.

I think it's better if you mail me, since I don't know your address and mine is on my profile. I tried everything-space.com, but alas. Would be very nice. We tried to contact them by E-mail, but untill now without success.

If all goes well, we have speakers from both SpaceAdventures and MirCorp. SA says they are the only company doing space tourism. Should be interesting...

We, together with several other institutes, are trying to get Goldin to speak at our symposium. He's asking a lot of money, but a lot of effort is being done.

Also, former astronaut Wubbo Ockels is willing to speak at our symposium and maybe future astronaut Andre Kuipers.

Furthermore, next week we have sponsorship-negotiations with the national lottery.
