Did you know?

The Platypus is stranger than you think.

Platypuses have no nipples.  After the young hatch, the mother oozes milk from the pores all over her body.

The male platypus has a poison barb on the inside of its hind legs.  The purpose of this weapon is uncertain.

While often compared to the beaver, the platypus is only about 20 inches in length -- more comparable to the size of the muskrat.

The Platypus bill is actually just an elongated muzzle covered with much the same kind of tough skin found on a dog's nose.  This bill contains an electrically-sensitive organ that can detect the electrical signatures of the small aquatic animals it eats.

OK, now we just need some discussions that includes large mathematical formulas  :elkgrin.gif:

Is there a LATEX utility, application or add-on to the browser that one can use off-line to create equations?  I have seen a few websites that use LATEX to produce mathematical equations in lectures or texts.

Yes, the Tex (and Latex) were initially designed for "offline" use -- free of charge, OS independent, and very popular in text processing of scientific society.

Softwares:

MiKTeX

WinEdt

Tex -> Html

Tex -> Pdf

Tex -> Pdf Presentation

A fine tutorial of LATEX2e:

Thanks broomstar!

and Thank you, Orstio, for introducing this innovation to E-S!

Test

[tex] \begin \left(\begin{array}{cc}\large 1 &\large 2 \\ \large 0 &\large 1 \end{array}\right) \left(\begin{array}{cc}\large 2 &\large 0 \\ \large 1 &\large 3 \end{array}\right) = \left(\begin{array}{cc}\large 4 &\large 6 \\ \large 1 &\large 3 \end{array}\right) [/tex]

[tex]f(x) = \sum_{i=0}^{\infty}\frac{f^{(i)}(x)}{i!} [/tex]

The syntax seems different here than on other sites, and spaces do make a difference.  This is not easy for the novice.

Guess who?

[tex]\Delta{\Large x}\,\Delta\Large p \,= \,\frac{\Large h}{ 2\pi} \,= \,\Large\hbar[/tex]

Don't worry if you're uncertain. :D

I think the difference lies in the fact that it is not true LATEX, but a clone called Mimetex.  The host would have to do a whole bunch of things to make real LATEX possible, and I'm not sure that they would want to compromise certain security features for it.

So Mimetex will have to do.

No problem, I like math challenges and brain teasers. :elkgrin.gif:

I think I've got it figured out.  Looking forward to some mathematical fun.

Any chance you could integrate MathCad, Matlab or Mathematica into the site? ;D
