A swarm of 10,000 or more black holes may be orbiting the Milky Way's supermassive black hole, according to new results from NASA's Chandra X-ray Observatory. This may represent the highest concentration of black holes anywhere in the Galaxy.

there must be a conference going on....so much news all of a sudden

I am skeptical - let's just say our models, based on our limited understanding, predict "a swarm of 10,000 or more black holes orbiting the Milky Way's supermassive black hole."

I often wonder if the scientific community leads itself in a particular direction under the inertia of the collective thought (I need to think further in order to elaborate),

They talk about the model for why stellar mass black holes should spiral in towards the galactic center but I'd like to know how well understood the gravitational dynamics of a galaxy such as the Milky Way really is. I would think the "dark matter" business has to enter into the models somewhere. The velocities of the stars around the galactic core have a dependence upon distance from the core that is not easy to explain. I'll try to find some links.

The stuff is not that new though, I remember I saw some similar pictures last month when I read a paper on arXiv, and here it is:

Disappointingly, no talk about the 2nd year result of WMAP in this AAS conference and the release of 2nd year WMAP result has been delayed for quite a long time. No people in the WMAP group reveals anything about it and no one outside that group really knows what's going on.

are you waiting for the results of WMAP for your research?

Not Really, but I think there are a whole bunch of people are waiting for the results for research purpose and some of the others are just curious about what has happened to the 2nd year data as many related talks scheduled on it have been cancelled.
