4th October, 1957 22h 28m 34sec R-7 rocket launched from the 5th scientific-test polygon of the defence ministry, turning it into Baikonur cosmodrome. Onboard the first artificial stalite Sputnik 1 weighting 83.6 kg. Un 295,4 after start the central rocket block and the satellite were put in eliptic orbit with 947km apogee and 288 in peregee and 96.2 mins period of rotation. On 315 second after the launch, the satellite seperated from the second stage and with it's "Bip-Bip" signaled the start of the space age. The satellilte flew 92 days till January 4th 1958, makin 1440 orbits (nearly 60 million km) before burning up in the atmosphere. It's radio transmiters worked for 2 weeks after the launch.
