I stumbled across an article about 8 Flora, a rather innocuous little asteroid, but the article lead me to a more general discussion of asteroids, including a number of groups.

8 Flora ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/%288%29_Flora ) is a member of the "Main Asteroid Belt" - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Main_belt.

Other groups include -

Damocloids
Near Earth Objects (NEOs)
Jupiter Trojan Asteroids
Centaurs
Trans-Neptunian objects (TNOs)
Kuiper belt objects (KBOs)

Asteroids are also defined by families - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Asteroid_family
