We've also discovered the excellence of home grown heirloom popcorn. Why anyone developed the Reddenbacher types I'll never know.
Cutie Pops popcorn
http://www.stokeseeds.com/cgi-bin/StokesSeeds.storefront tastes so much better than commercial popcorn. It also a very cute decorative corn. Â The problem we have had with popping is that some ears don't pop at all. Other ears pop well.
This year I have saved the ears that have good pop quality and plan to plant just those next year. Hopefully I can get a reliably popping crop.
Why is it so much better than commercial? Mike and I can't quite figure it out. The poped kernels are smaller and perhaps the flavor is more intense as a result. It tastes, cornier, sweeter almost. And there are NO HULLS, none, you can even enjoy crunching an entire bowl of old maids - they taste really good and crunch easily.
Anyway, that's the only variety of popcorn that we have grown. I plan to also try strawberry popcorn
http://henryfields.com/product.asp?pn=66287 that I picked up from the store. If it is as tasty as the cutie pops, we'll be growing that as well.
