I heard that male mice sing at frequencies above human hearing.
Over the weekend, one our cats, probably Misty (the female), found a mouse in the garage. She brought it into the kitchen to play, but then our little Yorkshire terrier, Sassy, decided to get involved in the game.
I took the injured mouse and removed it to the backyard. I doubt it survived.

Making an odd extrapolation here: I'd always wondered - and read behavioral scientists saying the same - why humans sing. There appears to be no useful reason for it, in a strict evolutionary sense.
So, hmmm. Perhaps it got it's start as exactly the same thing - to woo a mate. We no longer use it for this, but the ability remains, and now we use it to entertain ourselves.
Just a thought.

Can't help but think of the musical cliché
Nelson Eddie singing to Jeanette McDonald

Somebody at Physics Forums point this out
Quote
When the males encountered cotton swabs dunked in female mouse urine, they broke into song.
